Studies have shown that there is a significant relationship between self-worth and academic performance.
Self-worth issues and psycho-social dysfunctions have a severe impact on the ability to learn, teach, work or construct a meaningful life.
Self-worth, based on a healthy understanding of personal identity, is a factor that directly affects the academic achievement of young students.
In South Africa, psycho-social dysfunctions are prevalent. One of the major factors which negatively impacts academic achievement and the life choices made by young people, is a lack of self-worth and the inability to navigate adolescent development. Without mentors, positive role models and supportive families, many are not able to see past and overcome the difficulties experienced in their teenage and / or younger years. Lack of emotional development in the child, causes low coping and communication skills, which may eventually lead to poor choices and coming under wrong influences.
While on an overseas mission and working with students in the Philippines, we became aware of the negative impact that a dysfunctional upbringing had on the ability of students to learn. As a result, we developed the “re.start Personal Identity Seminar”.
BENEFITS OF THE SEMINAR FOR STUDENTS
Students will know their unique personal identity and value as individuals, and understand how they are individually motivated.
They will be envisioned and inspired to achieve, have clear direction, be motivated to reach their full potential in life, and be healthy trend-setters of the future.
Students will be taught how to understand and be set free from experiences from the past, that trigger and cause dysfunctional behaviour.
BENEFITS OF THE SEMINAR FOR EDUCATORS
Educators will have students who are motivated and inspired to learn and to develop themselves to their full potential.
Students with dysfunctional tendencies will recognise their behaviour and be more willing and co-operative in taking responsibility for their lives and honouring their teachers.
BENEFITS OF THE SEMINAR FOR SPONSORS
Sponsors will have the satisfaction of knowing they have played a key role in developing a new generation of the future – stable young people, who are motivated and inspired, have clear direction and vision for their lives, and who have a desire to positively influence our society and country.
The “re-start” Personal Identity seminar has been successfully tested with educators and students at disadvantaged schools.
SCHOOLS IN THE DURBAN METRO AREA:
Over the past few years, we have become increasingly aware of the dysfunction of students in schools in the Durban Metro area, and realised that the re.start seminar would be very beneficial and empowering for these students.
SEMINAR IMPLEMENTATION:
Facilitate our re.start Personal Identity Seminar for principals, educators and students in the greater Durban Metro area, to help them become free from psycho-social problems due to a dysfunctional upbringing and past. Link with, equip and support police, social workers, churches and NGO’s, who are already active in support of schools and educational institutions.
